Rodrigo Alfonzo is a trailblazer in the Mexican paddling community, combining his expertise in packrafting and swiftwater rescue with a deep passion for exploring rivers and sharing his knowledge. As the first ACA Packraft Instructor in Mexico and an ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, Rodrigo has played a pivotal role in growing the paddling and packrafting scene across the country.
Based in Chiapas, Rodrigo’s local rivers like Río La Venta and Agua Azul hold a special place in his heart. Whether reminiscing about adventures with friends or sharing the joy of paddling with his son, these waters inspire his passion for exploration. Agua Azul Río Xanil, with its mix of beginner-friendly rapids and challenging drops, is one of his favorites, showcasing the awe-inspiring beauty of Mexico’s rivers.
Rodrigo’s gear of choice reflects his dedication to quality and performance. Starting with the versatile Manta Ray for beginners, moving to the rugged Shred for all-around use, and now trusting the Aerial Major for whitewater adventures, he values Aqua Bound paddles for their durability and comfort. The Aerial Major, with its bent shaft, has become his go-to paddle, providing improved dexterity and reliability during multi-day expeditions like his recent 52km trip in Oaxaca that ended in the Pacific Ocean.
As a community leader, Rodrigo is passionate about educating and inspiring others. He’s helped grow the packrafting community in Mexico by introducing new paddlers to the sport and organizing training events. In 2025, he plans to guide a group of Mexican paddlers on a spring expedition down Río La Venta and launch Swiftwater and Packraft courses, further expanding opportunities for safe and responsible river exploration.
Rodrigo’s legacy includes first descents in uncharted rivers, introducing packrafting to remote areas, and fostering a community that values safety, education, and shared adventure. For him, it’s not just about paddling; it’s about building connections and creating a vibrant, inclusive paddling culture across Mexico. Kayaker and Advocate
Devin Ashley Brown is a passionate paddler and community advocate based in Minnesota, with a deep connection to the Mississippi River. Devin's love for kayaking is deeply rooted in its meditative nature and the spiritual connection it provides to her. Paddling is an experience that opens parts of her heart and mind that remain inaccessible on land.
Devin decided to move to Minneapolis after becoming captivated by the Mississippi River's energy and vibrancy it brings to Minneapolis. In June of 2022, Devin entered the MR48, a nearly 50-mile race on the Mississippi River. She wanted to quit around mile 26, but her belief in the ability to wade through life’s challenges and a deep breath empowered her to dig deep. She took first place in the solo women’s division, completing the race in 6 hours and 13 minutes. She was the only woman of color in her heat, and one of just a few people of color in all the races.
Now Devin wants to help everyone learn the lessons the river has to teach. She wants to help her community reconnect with themselves and achieve their highest potential, as she did, through the nurturing waters of the Mississippi. As she pursued her paddling journey and found work with various outdoor companies, Devin faced challenges related to racial discrimination and inequities in outdoor activities. She uses her experiences to bring attention to the systemic issues that prevent BIPOC communities from accessing nature and engaging in paddling sports. Devin is dedicated to introducing more people who look like her to the joy of water sports.
In 2023, outside of her own business and instructing, Devin partnered with the Mississippi Park Connection (official friends group of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area) to offer kayaking classes tailored to Black and Brown communities. That summer, Devin introduced over 100 people of color and girls to kayaking on the Mississippi River. Her efforts were met with enthusiasm when she transitioned to a full-time role as Community Programs Manager. Devin's work has brought her together with other melanated paddlers across the country. Their shared stories of facing verbal assaults on the water further underscore the importance of their mission to create inclusive and safe spaces in the paddling community.
In her upcoming source-to-sea paddle down the Mississippi River, Devin aims to become the first Black woman to complete the 2,340 mile (3766 km) journey from the river's headwaters in Itasca, Minnesota, to mile 0 in the Gulf of Mexico in New Orleans. This adventure is a personal achievement, a tribute to those without a record, and a way to honor her ancestors. Through her paddling journey, Devin Ashley Brown continues to inspire and advocate for change. Her courage, resilience, and dedication to the sport serve as a guiding light for those who seek to find healing and connection on the water. Stay updated on Devin's journey and adventures by following her on Linktree and supporting her incredible work to create an inclusive paddling community. Marcel Bieg

Eugene, Oregon
As a young adventurer, Marcel Bieg was captivated by the allure of kayaking, drawn to the sport by its promise of adventure, challenge, and travel. His passion for kayaking and rafting shaped his life for nearly a decade, during which he embraced a nomadic lifestyle—spending summers navigating rivers and oceans across the U.S. and winters teaching snowboarding in the mountains.
Marcel's paddling journey began in 1994, and by 1995, he was teaching whitewater kayaking and working as a commercial raft guide. His life has since revolved around paddlesports, guiding and teaching across the U.S., from Alaska to the Keys, and internationally in Europe and South America. He enjoys all forms of paddlesports, including sea kayaking, SUP, and rafting.
Over the years, paddlesports evolved for Marcel from a thrilling pastime to a powerful medium for educating others, not only in paddling techniques but in life skills. The community he built around paddling is his driving force, and his journey has been deeply enriched by the incredible people he’s met along the way. Paddlesports even introduced him to his wife, and together, they’ve raised their daughter on rivers that carve through the deepest canyons and stretch across expansive oceans.
Since the late 1990s, Marcel has been a loyal paddler of Aqua Bound (AB) paddles, back when they were crafted in British Columbia. He believes in AB because they offer the best paddles for the money, making quality gear accessible to everyone—from beginners sacrificing much to enter the sport to families needing multiple paddles to pros demanding top-tier performance. AB has consistently valued his input, even crafting custom paddles for special missions like speed descents in the Grand Canyon or surf kayaking.
Marcel's gear preferences reflect the diversity of his paddling experiences. He uses the Shred for heavy whitewater runs, the Whiskey for kayak touring, the Edge with an extra-long shaft for guiding, and the Malta for SUP paddling. His favorite, however, is a custom paddle AB made for him—the Manta Surf, which combines a carbon whitewater shaft with a Manta Ray ABS carbon blade, perfect for surf kayaking and playboating.
Today, Marcel finds joy in every trip, whether familiar or new. His enthusiasm for seeking new adventures remains undiminished, always eager to explore uncharted waters with both old friends and new companions. This year, he has plans to circumnavigate Lake Tahoe in September, undertake various rafting and whitewater kayaking trips, and possibly teach in Europe and Costa Rica. This fall, he’ll be involved in the ACA Raft Rendezvous in Western North Carolina and will continue teaching instructor certification workshops across the Pacific Northwest, Montana, and New Mexico. Maxence Clemencon – Max – is a passionate paddler based in the Durance Valley, France—a true hotspot for whitewater in Europe. He got his start with packrafting back in 2017, and since then, his journey has been all about building community, leveling up skills, and raising safety awareness
Max helped launched the first-ever European Packrafting Meetup in Slovenia in 2018, an annual event that has since grown and is still going strong. The following year, he founded the French Alps Packraft Meet to get packrafters of all abilities working on their paddling skills and promote safe paddling. During these events, you’ll usually find Max leading workshops on safety, technique and gear, both on land and in the water.
He holds a Swiftwater Rescue Technician Level 1 certification and keeps up with regular safety training. For Max, paddling is more than a sport—it’s a way to connect with the environment, push personal limits, and geek out on gear. He loves how the right equipment can transform a day on the water and enjoys helping others feel the difference between “just okay” and “game-changer” gear.
High quality gear is one reason he’s stoked to be aligned with Aqua Bound. Max appreciates the brand’s small, passionate team, and their commitment to innovation. His go-to paddle is the Aerial Major Fiberglass; he’s a big fan of the solid grip, precise indexing, and how it feels like a one-piece despite being adjustable. Plus, it looks awesome.
When he’s not organizing events, Max is creating videos on paddling techniques and gear reviews, with more content coming soon, thanks to a fresh camera setup. Jeff Creamer discovered his passion for paddling in 2007 through OC6 racing, then picked up packrafting in 2013 as a tool for backcountry travel, which evolved into a focus on wilderness whitewater adventures. Jeff is a swiftwater rescue and paddling skills instructor for SSI and contributes to packraft testing, product development, and manufacturing at Alpacka Raft.
Jeff loves the intermixing of backcountry exploration, paddling, and expedition planning that packrafting affords. So far, his favorite paddling trip was a 2021 traverse in Idaho, which seamlessly integrated skiing across the Sawtooth mountains with paddling down the Middle Fork Salmon and Selway Rivers.
Between backcountry whitewater and long distance ski+packrafting expeditions, Jeff spends a lot of time considering gear choices that meet top weight-quality-performance spectrums. Aqua Bound paddles consistently meet his high standards, making them his top choice for adventure paddling. Jeff's favorite paddle is the Whiskey Fiberglass 2-piece. It excels on expeditions where weight is crucial, particularly for ski+packraft routes or long hikes with mellower whitewater. Its stiffness and efficiency, combined with its durability, make it an ideal paddle for demanding conditions.
Jeff is renowned for pioneering true class V whitewater packrafting in backcountry settings, including notable runs on the Middle Kings and Upper Cherry in 2019. He is also known for developing novel wilderness routes and timing flash flood events on the Colorado Plateau.
Jeff actively participates in the paddling community through various events and courses, including demos, safety and skill courses, roundups, speaking events, and engages in packraft discussions on various online forums. With an exciting lineup of paddling trips and projects for the year, full of whitewater packrafting and ski-packrafting, (try to) keep up with Jeff on his social media accounts.

With more than 16 years of experience in sea kayaking, Osi is known for his deep connection to water, nature, and the thrill of dynamic waters. One of his most unforgettable experiences occurred when a pod of dolphins swam beneath his kayak, providing a rare and intimate moment of connection with these incredible creatures.
Osi’s passion for paddling stems from the feeling of being close to the water and experiencing the raw power of nature. Whether navigating dynamic waters alone or leading groups of beginners, he thrives in the challenge of interpreting the water and finding safe paths to play in the surf or explore rock gardens. He enjoys paddling in environments rich in wildlife, and one day he hopes to paddle in a place where he can see orcas, sea lions, and whales, enriching his connection to nature even more.
Osi began his sea kayaking journey at 16, quickly progressing from assistant to tour leader for an adventure sports company in Kaş. Tomasz Furmanek is best known for his stunning kayaking photography, capturing special moments on the water that inspire adventure lovers worldwide. With a popular Instagram account and a long-standing collaboration with GoPro, Tomasz has been a staple in the paddling and outdoor photography community for years.
His favorite trip? Paddling the west side of the Lofoten Islands—though he’s equally captivated by the fjords and coastline of western Norway, which he frequently explores.
Tomasz’s paddle journey began with Aqua Bound many years ago, long before the Whiskey and Tango models hit the scene. He’s been an ambassador since the Whiskey Carbon paddle launched, and it remains an important part of his go-to gear. In fact, he still uses his very first Whiskey Carbon, now adorned with stickers, proving its incredible durability and timeless design.
When it comes to paddles, Tomasz is a true connoisseur. The Whiskey paddle is his top pick for forgiveness and predictability—perfect for beginners, rough waters, or roll training. For those seeking a robust, budget-friendly option, he recommends the Manta Ray Carbon. His other favorites include the high-end Tetra and Aerial paddles, each offering exceptional quality and performance. The Tetra is ideal for sea kayaking, while the Aerial shines in rough waters, whether sea kayaking or packrafting.
Although Tomasz doesn’t compete, he’s an active voice in the kayaking world. He collaborates with GoPro several times a year and has exciting plans for 2025, including new projects and longer video content for his YouTube channel.

Born in Catalonia (Spain), Oriol Geli first picked up a paddle at 19 through canoe polo, quickly rising to become a U21 national champion and a member of the Catalonia National team. But it was on the sea where he found his true calling. Whether surfing waves, exploring wild coastlines, or gliding over glassy water, Oriol says paddling gives him “a true sense of freedom” — and anyone who's ever been in a kayak knows exactly what he means.
With 15 seasons of experience guiding and teaching, Oriol has paddled some of the most stunning waters on Earth. He’s led expeditions around various Balearic Islands and along the Mediterranean coasts of Spain, France, and Italy. Further afield, he has also guided multiday and daily tours in Aotearoa New Zealand’s Abel Tasman National Park and the Marlborough Sounds, both places he holds close to heart.
He co-founded and runs a sea kayaking company on the Costa Brava, where he also trains the next generation of guides, helping rebuild the paddling scene post-COVID with passion and purpose.
Oriol’s paddle of choice is one that matches his bold, dynamic style. He prefers wide blades and a bent shaft for powerful strokes and all-day comfort — which is why Aqua Bound felt like the perfect fit. After too many broken paddles on remote trips, Oriol was drawn to Aqua Bound’s durability, clean design, and high-performance feel. The Whiskey paddle, in particular, caught his eye — and hands — as the perfect match for his high-energy approach to the water.
He holds top sea kayaking certifications in Spain, a BCU 3 Star award, and a university master’s degree in Sport Science and Teaching. Yet Oriol says his proudest milestone is turning what started as a summer gig into a full-time, year-round professional lifestyle with his company Lemon Kayak — and building a team of new-generation sea kayakers who truly love and enjoy their work. From paddling the 214 km Costa Brava coastline in just over two days, to planning future expeditions through Chile’s fjords, Oriol is always chasing the next horizon — and bringing others along for the ride. https://www.instagram.com/orioljosepgeli/ https://www.lemonkayak.com/en/

Packrafter and Sea Kayaker
Johan Grönblad, a passionate advocate of packrafting and sea kayaking, finds inspiration in exploring the Nordic countries' archipelagos and embarking on extended packraft expeditions. His fondest adventure remains the Kaitum River journey in northern Sweden, featured prominently in the film "Earning a River." This expedition entailed a three-day hike to reach the river followed by a five-day, 110km paddle through a landscape renowned for its dramatic fells. For Johan, the experience of navigating such wild terrain with friends epitomizes the essence of true adventure.
Since 2017, Johan has been deeply involved in the Nordic packrafting community, organizing packraft roundups and actively promoting whitewater safety initiatives. Despite not competing professionally, he continually seeks out bucket list trips that challenge and inspire him.
Among paddles, Johan's preferred choice is the Tango bent shaft for its efficiency during long days on the water. Its ergonomic design enables him to employ low-angle strokes effectively, reducing fatigue while maximizing paddling distance. He values its superior grip and reliability, essential qualities for his extended expeditions.
Currently, Johan eagerly anticipates exploring new waters and expanding his repertoire of memorable paddling experiences. His dedication to promoting safe and fulfilling paddling adventures in the Nordic regions underscores his commitment to the outdoor community.

Since 2013, Emil has pretty much lived and breathed kayaking. He started his paddling career as a sea kayak instructor under the European Paddle Pass system, eventually becoming a Level 2 trainer and EPP 3 examiner. Not one to sit still, he then jumped into the world of kayak design and business development with Melker of Sweden, handling everything from production and development to finance and strategy.
By the end of 2024, Emil decided to go all-in on his own passion project, LEK MER, a kayak rental and education hub he dreams of becoming the go-to kayak center in Stockholm. He’s focusing on teaching even more people to paddle through courses, social media, and educational videos on YouTube. He’s also actively involved in the Swedish Canoe Federation’s recreational paddling committee, helping spread the excitement for kayaking across the country.
Emil’s love for kayaking runs deep. One of his proudest moments was paddling the entire Swedish coastline in 2016 – a trip that spanned 79 days, 2,460 km, and a whole lot of adventure. Another highlight was a 100+ km crossing from Öland to Gotland in the Baltic Sea. While he's not big on competitions, he keeps his focus on inspiring others to explore further and fall in love with the water.
Why Aqua Bound? Emil says it’s the gear and the innovation—but sharing a beer or two with the team when they’ve been together in the past hasn’t hurt either. 😉
His mission these days is clear: build a community of passionate paddlers, encourage folks to go beyond the basics, and crack the code of how to get more people into advanced kayaking. For Molly Hagbrand, paddling isn’t just a passion—it’s a way of life. As a year-round sea kayaking instructor for NOLS, she spends her days leading expeditions, teaching students the joys of kayaking, and logging hundreds of miles on the water each year. With a deep love for the wilderness, Molly is dedicated to helping others develop the skills and confidence to explore the ocean safely. As a European Paddle Pass examiner at the Green level, she brings top-tier expertise to skill development and assessment.
Molly thrives on the experience of traveling by sea kayak, whether she’s gliding over calm, glassy waters or tackling rough conditions – especially surfing. But for her, the best part of any trip isn’t just the paddling; it’s the people. No matter where she goes, sharing these incredible experiences with fellow adventurers makes every journey special. Among her favorite destinations are the breathtaking coastline of Baja and the Gulf of California, where rugged landscapes meet vibrant marine life.
When it comes to gear, Aqua Bound paddles have been a key part of Molly’s adventures for years. Her go-to paddle is the Whiskey 4-piece, with its compact nature being a perfect companion for travel. She’s also excited about the new Tetra, which pushes the boundaries of lightweight design and comfort. Through countless expeditions, she’s trusted Aqua Bound’s paddles for their durability and performance, never once having one break.
Molly doesn’t measure success in miles or records. Instead, her greatest achievement is turning this lifestyle into a long-term career that she loves. Waking up excited to go to work, meeting inspiring people, and sharing unforgettable experiences are the things that matter most to Molly. Molly says one of her biggest contributions to the paddling community is teaching safety, ensuring new paddlers gain the knowledge and skills to engage with the sport responsibly.
Despite exploring some of the world’s most epic kayaking destinations, this year’s dream trip is a bit closer to home. She is paddling with family in the Stockholm archipelago—a stunning place she’s eager to rediscover through their eyes. As a Paddle Australia Sea Kayak Guide and the owner of Sea Kayak Jervis Bay, Dane spends his days leading paddlers through one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal regions. Located on the East Coast’s ‘Humpback Highway,’ Jervis Bay offers endless opportunities for adventure. One of Dane’s most unforgettable moments was drifting alongside a pod of four humpback whales as they fed and relaxed in the bay’s calm waters—an experience that perfectly captures the magic of this place.
Dane has been leading multi-day sea kayaking expeditions for over 12 years and has run Sea Kayak Jervis Bay for the past five. Through his business, he’s built a tight-knit community of paddlers, from first-time paddlers to seasoned ocean adventurers, sharing his passion and expertise with all who seek the thrill of open water.
With daily paddling for both work and play, Dane relies on top-quality gear to stay efficient and injury-free. That’s why Aqua Bound paddles are the only paddles he uses, both for guiding and personal adventures. When it comes to his own setup, Dane’s go-to paddle is the Tango Carbon. The ultra-lightweight design and smooth efficiency have allowed him to push his long-distance paddling to new limits, now regularly reaching 50-kilometer (31-mile) days on the water.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dane is set to lead multi-day expeditions on Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, a bucket-list destination for sea kayakers. Beyond that, his sights are set on even bigger adventures, with plans for paddling trips in Baja, Mexico, West Papua, and Alaska in the coming years.
Wherever the water takes him next, one thing is certain—Dane will be paddling with passion, purpose, and an Aqua Bound paddle in hand. Kayaking has been my lifelong passion, but what I love most is sharing that passion with others. There’s nothing quite like the joy of introducing someone to a new river and seeing their face light up as they conquer it for the first time. Teaching is a true calling for me, and when I get to combine that with kayaking, it’s the perfect match. I paddle because it gives me an incredible sense of freedom—every choice I make on the water matters, and the outcome depends entirely on my own skills. Conquering a rapid that once scared me is the ultimate rush, leaving me eager for the next challenge.
Among the many unforgettable trips I’ve taken, one of the most epic was a weekend on the Elk River. The upper section of the Elk features intense Class V rapids and culminates in an incredible 40-foot waterfall drop into a stunning pool. Only two of us attempted the upper section on the first lap that day. We had minimal beta and had to scout every rapid meticulously, turning a typical 35-minute run into a 2.5-hour adventure. It was a thrill to push our limits and finish with a huge 40-foot back freewheel—a rewarding way to cap off an amazing day on the river.
I chose to partner with Aqua Bound after testing one of their paddles on a small river trip. Despite being mostly flatwater, I felt an immediate connection with the paddle. The control, responsiveness, and easy adjustability gave me the freedom to adapt my paddling style seamlessly, making it clear that I needed one of my own. Aqua Bound’s paddles have become an integral part of my gear, elevating my performance and connection to the water.
My love for whitewater kayaking began at age nine, when my dad and I took up the sport together. I learned the ropes at Camp Adirondack in New York, where my dad worked, and went on to spend a summer with the OKS Keeners and a semester at World Class Kayak Academy. For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching kayaking at Camp Adirondack, an experience I’ve cherished. I recently completed my first year of college in Montana, where I’ve been excited to explore the incredible rivers this area has to offer. My approach to paddling has evolved over time, but I’ve found a deep passion for the mission-driven aspect of the sport—there’s nothing like scouting a challenging line yourself and then executing it with precision.
Some of my favorite accomplishments include a 40-foot back freewheel off Leap of Faith in British Columbia, which was my biggest freestyle attempt yet. The feeling of rolling up in the pool below and looking back at what I’d just achieved was unforgettable. Another huge milestone was running the #5 boof on the Zambezi River. I’d watched videos of that rapid since I was a kid and never imagined I’d have the chance to tackle it myself, so standing there in the current felt like a dream come true. https://www.instagram.com/treytonharrell/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPzpl1EHnaQ

At just 14 years old, Luca Hovsveen is already making waves in the paddling world as an Aqua Bound ambassador. Paddling for only two years, Luca’s passion for kayaking ignited instantly. “I loved kayaking from the first hour I tried it—I was addicted that day,” he says. His dedication and love for the sport have taken him far in a short amount of time, and he’s just getting started.
This year, Luca stepped up his skills in freestyle and river paddling, progressing to Class III-IV rivers and even running his first waterfalls. A standout moment for him was conquering the “Pennydrop” waterfall on Strandaelvi, guided by River Mutton, where he nailed the line on his very first attempt in a playboat. “The feeling was magic,” Luca recalls. “We were all happy and excited—it was the best day on the river!”
Luca’s competitive journey is equally impressive. He represented Norway at the World Kayaking Championship at Voss Ekstremsportsweek 2024, placing 3rd and 4th in juniors. He also competed in his first freestyle competition at the Norwegian Freestyle Championship (NM) at his home spot in Kongsberg, taking 3rd place. Luca and his twin brother, Mathys, who shares the same passion, are now preparing to compete in their first big international freestyle competition at the World Championship in Plattling, Germany, with the guidance of their trainers Marlène Devillez and Nicolas Caussanel.
Beyond the competitions, Luca is all about having fun on the river, exploring new challenges, and sharing his passion for paddling with others. He loves helping beginners learn new skills and showing them how exciting kayaking can be. “I love the challenges, the fun of freestyle and playing down the river, and being part of nature—it’s fantastic!” he says.
Luca’s year is packed with adventures, including training sessions in the UK, freestyle competitions in Plattling, Norway’s Veko festival, Sjoa River Festival, and monthly training camps for the Norwegian kayak youth program. While his goal is to perform his best at the World Championships, his ultimate focus is to have as much fun as possible and inspire others to embrace the magic of kayaking.
With the support of his twin brother, Mathys, and their mom—who not only drives them everywhere but also joins them on the water—Luca is part of an incredible paddling team that shares unforgettable moments on the river. At just 14 years old, Mathys Hovsveen is carving out his place in the kayaking world alongside his twin brother and fellow Aqua Bound ambassador, Luca. Despite having only started paddling two years ago, Mathys has already built a reputation in the paddling community as an up-and-coming talent with an infectious passion for the sport.
“I’ve always loved sports and water,” Mathys says. “Kayaking is the perfect mix of fun and challenge. From the very first day I tried it—even though I swam in a hole—I was hooked.” Whether it’s freestyle, creek runs, or paddling downriver, Mathys thrives on the excitement, the sense of flow, and the camaraderie of the sport.
This year has been an exciting one for Mathys. He competed in the World Kayaking Championship at Voss Ekstremsportsweek, earning an impressive 2nd and 3rd place in the junior category. He and his brother were also chosen to represent Norway at the Freestyle World Championships in Plattling, Germany. Preparing for such a big international event is a challenge Mathys is tackling head-on with the support of his trainers, Marlène Devillez and Nicolas Caussanel.
One of Mathys’ favorite trips this year was a full day of creeking on the Brandseth River with his family and friends. The highlight was running a 7-meter waterfall for the first time, combining the thrill of scouting lines, perfecting his approach, and sharing unforgettable moments on the river. “It was such a fun day. The weather was perfect, we ran waterfalls, paddled, and laughed together all day,” he recalls. Beyond competitions and personal milestones, Mathys finds joy in sharing his love for kayaking with others. Whether it’s playing on the river with friends or helping beginners learn new skills, he’s passionate about spreading the excitement and connection that paddling brings.
The year ahead is packed with adventure for Mathys. He’s heading to the UK to meet his sponsor, Pyranha, pick up a new boat, and train with Dennis and Ottilie. Easter will take him to Plattling to prepare for the Freestyle World Championship, with more competitions and training camps in Norway and abroad throughout the season. From slalom events at his home spot in Kongsberg to river festivals in Voss and Sjoa, Mathys is eager to paddle new rivers, meet new people, and keep building his skills.
Mathys credits much of his success and joy on the river to the strong bond he shares with his twin brother, Luca. Together, they’re a dynamic duo, inspiring and supporting each other every step of the way. With their mom cheering them on—and often joining them in the kayak—they’re an unstoppable team.
With big competitions on the horizon and plenty of fun to be had on the river, Mathys is ready to keep pushing his limits and sharing his love for kayaking with the world. Aerial Minor Carbon 2pc Straight https://www.instagram.com/rivertwins2010/

Jessica Kelley is a former river guide turned packrafter extraordinaire. After guiding in her early 20s, she took a paddling hiatus before jumping back in with a packraft in 2017. Since then, she has paddled all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, completing several packraft-specific Swiftwater Rescue courses and earning a Wilderness First Responder certification. When she’s not on the water, Jessica runs Evergreen Endurance Coaching, helping others plan and execute their own paddling adventures.
However, this summer Jessica has a big adventure: a 1,400-mile human-powered loop through the Yukon and Alaska. Funded by the Bob Swanson Memorial Grant through Big Agnes, Jessica won the award, which is dedicated to helping adventurers, explorers, and go-getters tackle their next big endeavor.
Jessica has tackled some pretty epic adventures, including:
Methow River: Source to Columbia – hiking, biking, and packrafting the entire length
1,350-mile solo bikepacking and packrafting journey across Alaska
Numerous fastest known times (FKTs) on various traverses
Finishing the White Mountains 100 in Alaska
Numerous top finishes in ultra-marathons, triathlons, and endurance races
Jessica loves paddling because moving through the water helps her focus on exactly what is in front of her, nothing more. Whether floating down a peaceful river or tackling a spicy section of whitewater, paddling helps her stay in the moment. Her favorite trip so far? Hands down, tracing the Methow River from its source in the North Cascades to where it meets the Columbia River. The Methow is her home river, and exploring it so intimately was a true privilege.
Right now, Jessica is loving her Whiskey Fiberglass 4-piece straight shaft in Fuego for its stellar looks, lightweight, and packability. Perfect for those long hikes or bike rides to the put-in to begin paddling, and it allows for great boat control.
Try to keep up with Jessica’s sense of adventure on her social media accounts, we sure will!

When it comes to gear, he’s a big fan of Aqua Bound for the functionality, durability, and the down-to-earth people behind the brand. His go-to setup is the Aerial paddle for whitewater — especially with the easy-to-spot blue blades on the fiberglass model — and the Whiskey Carbon for flatwater paddling and having ready as a light spare.

Katja's go-to paddle is the light weight Whiskey Carbon 4-piece, ideal for the rigors of long packrafting expeditions when one must carry gear long distances.
Katja's love for paddling stems from her lifelong affinity for the outdoors. "I love long packrafting trips in wild rivers away from roads. I have been an outdoor person all my life, and packrafting has made my hiking trips even more adventurous." While it is difficult to choose one favorite trip, Ivalojoki River in Finnish Lapland tops the list. Ivalojoki is a famous paddling river in Finland, known from the Finnish gold rush and historical area. Katja and her crew extended this trip by starting from the very begining of the river, first walking about 30 kilometers (as packrafters often do).
Katja lives in South-West Finland in a beautiful archipelago, so when not packrafting, Katja leverages sea kayaking to see the inspiring nature and surrounding islands.

From dreaming as a child while watching paddlers on the Mighty Ocoee to leading expeditions and pushing boundaries worldwide, McKenley has built a remarkable career that merges his love for rivers, exploration, and community.
With over a decade of professional guiding and instructing experience, McKenley has worked on some of the world’s most iconic rivers, including the Soca, Sun Koshi, Kern, Payette, and the Salzach. He’s not just an adventurer; he’s also a scholar, with a B.S. in Outdoor Recreation and Psychology and an M.A. in Business Innovation Management from Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. His academic pursuits have led him to publish research on paddle sports behaviorism, creating innovative frameworks that bridge tourism, technology, and paddling culture.
McKenley’s adventures are as varied as his expertise. He’s been a competitor in extreme races, a consultant for the paddle industry, and even embarked on the Pedal/Paddle Tour—a year-long expedition cycling 13,000 km through 22 countries, exploring the best whitewater each region had to offer. This journey culminated in Nepal, where he paddled the mighty Himalayan rivers, marking one of the most rewarding milestones of his career.
Aqua Bound paddles have been a steadfast part of his journey. McKenley is particularly fond of the Shred Carbon 4-Piece Breakdown, a paddle he trusts implicitly on both remote expeditions and local runs. He also raves about Aqua Bound’s innovation, particularly the Aerial paddle, which he describes as crisp, smooth, and gentle on his well-used shoulders. “You can gauge the quality of a company by the people it surrounds itself with,” he says. “Aqua Bound’s ambassadors are some of the best river folk I’ve met.”
Beyond the water, McKenley is a passionate advocate for the paddle community. He’s developing a packraft race to highlight the craft’s unique benefits and working on a long-term mission to kayak Charyn Canyon in Kazakhstan, known as the Grand Canyon of Central Asia. As a consultant, he’s helping outdoor companies and athletes succeed through strategic marketing, sponsorship ROI tools, and SEO guides tailored to small businesses.
While McKenley’s paddling journey began with chasing the adrenaline of big boofs and fast lines, he is ultimately drawn to the people of the sport; he recognizes the connection he shares with fellow paddlers as what makes his memories on the water so special: “I paddle as much for the people as I do for the river.” Aerial Minor Carbon https://www.instagram.com/mountmckenley/?hl=en https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOXO-xXDVymAf6VThHT8bSQ

I have always loved being on the water as a kid growing up in Virginia Beach. My first experiences paddling came in college with courses in White Water Kayaking and Canoe Camping, using what I learned on the James River. Trips on the Potomac and New Rivers grew my love for the excitement of moving water.Upon getting married, I moved to Hawaii and started working for a kayak shop in order to spend as much time as possible learning about paddling the islands. A good swell meant taking surf boats out and brushing up on those white water skills. I started guided tours for a small company in Kailua, which also gave me the opportunity to be involved with some conservation efforts specifically related to Wedge-tailed Shearwaters.
After Hawaii, life changed with a move to the Arizona desert and the birth of our two daughters. I got to teach P.E. to homeschool kids and coach at a local high school. While visiting friends in Oregon I tried Stand-Up Paddleboarding for the first time on a lake in the Cascade Mountains.
In 2016 my family moved to Grand Marais, MN, and I started working at Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply as a part-time sales associate and kayak guide. I was the General Manager and had the privilege of leading a great team of people who love the outdoors and helping people experience it safely. I'm still very involved with the store, but we've recently relocated to northern Maine. I'm enjoying getting to explore a new part of the country.
I paddle an Eddyline Raven, which is the perfect Big Lake/sea kayak for this river and wave lover. I use the AquaBound Tango Carbon with a bent shaft. I'm a leftie, so I feather just slightly that way.
My board is a Gray Duck Journey. With this board I've done the Washburn Board Across the Bay and won my division twice. I use the Malta in Tide Green and kinda love having a pretty paddle.

Dan Ransom grew up backpacking and canyoneering near Salt Lake City, Utah. His adventures evolved with the use of packrafts, allowing him to explore remote areas of the Colorado Plateau that were otherwise inaccessible. Initially focusing on flatwater paddling, Dan's trips have transitioned to multi-day adventures featuring intermediate whitewater. Now residing in Central Oregon, he continues to engage in year-round paddling while designing packraft-specific gear like backpacks, pogies, and deck bags through his small business, Sockdolager Equipment.
Dan enjoys the unique experience of traversing entire landscapes, blending backpacking, canyoneering, and paddling. “The beauty of adding a river to the mix is you can still combine the best parts of backpacking and canyoneering, but also add the extra wrinkle of excitement from whitewater, or the pure bliss of drifting effortlessly.”. His favorite trips combine a mix of all of this, with the Grand Canyon being a top destination for its diverse and challenging terrain.
When asked “Why Aqua Bound?” Dan shares “In packrafting where weight is so critical on some trips, Aqua Bound is the obvious answer–there simply aren’t any other paddles as light and high-quality. But the main reason I am a big fan of Aqua Bound is they have taken a huge interest in packrafting, they are super approachable, and always keen to learn how we use the products and how they might be improved.” We are a fan of Dan for his willingness to help us continually innovate and meet evolving needs of packrafters.
When Dan is not designing and sewing gear or shredding rivers, he is actively involved with the American Packraft Association, contributing photography and video content. He also helps organize packraft meetups throughout Colorado and Utah to help stoke excitement and share advice and safe practices within the sport.
This year, Dan aims to explore remote multi-day backcountry rivers in Eastern Oregon and Idaho. He also plans trips down the Yampa and Rogue Rivers and hopes to develop a reliable packraft roll. With a focus on adventure and skill-building, Dan asks us all to wish his 42-year-old shoulders good luck!

Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Scotland
I’m fortunate to live in the colourful town of Tobermory on the wild and stunning Isle of Mull on the west coast of Scotland. I am an inveterate sea kayaker who loves nothing more than paddling slowly around the nooks and crannies of Tobermory Bay, hoping to chance upon seals, otters, sea eagles and other amazing coastal life. Immersion in Nature and wildness is elemental for me and sea kayaking is the most obvious way for me to enjoy this. I particularly enjoy long kayaking expeditions when I journey at the pace of nature, reaching beautiful places few get to see. I live with severe and enduring clinical depression which is a constant internal battle for me. I strongly believe in the
curative power of nature and I hope by being open about my illness and my active life in the natural world, I offer insights and awareness for others. I’m grateful and proud to be an ambassador for Aqua Bound.

Laila Reigstad has been living her passion for kayaking full-time for nearly a decade. As a certified sea kayak instructor with the Norwegian Padling Association since 2016, Laila has guided over 1,600 students and led breathtaking expeditions across Norway and Greenland.
Her favorite paddling memory is kayaking alongside humpback whales in Northern Norway. “We’re so tiny compared to them,” she says, recalling the profound moment a whale surfaced, made eye contact, and reminded her of our shared place in evolution. Laila’s contributions to the paddling community are vast. She authored a sold-out beginner’s guide to sea kayaking in 2022, which will be translated into Estonian in 2025. As the former editor of Padling, Norway’s premier paddling magazine, she’s well-known for inspiring stories and practical guidance.
A true innovator, Laila launched Feminint Friluftsliv, an outdoor knowledge app, in early 2024. She plans to expand it in 2025, adding kayaking content and building a digital universe of outdoor expertise.
On the water, Laila has proven her skills in competitions like the Vohandu Marathon in Estonia, where she placed 2nd out of 450 women in 2024. Her expertise extends to gear, favoring the Whiskey Carbon Bent Shaft for rough waters, and the Tetra Straight Shaft for long races like the Vohandu's grueling 120 km.
As an ambassador for brands like Level Six, Padlespesialisten, Garmin Nordic, and Zegul Kayaks, Laila embodies professionalism and passion. Whether guiding high-end tours in Bergen or leading spiritual kayaking retreats with beginner paddlers, she brings connection, creativity, and adventure to every trip.
In 2025, she’ll celebrate 10 years of living full-time as a kayak professional with a packed schedule: expeditions west of Bergen, glacier lake tours in Folgefonna National Park, and three weeks in Greenland guiding paddlers through its stunning, icy waters.
From introducing beginners to the joys of kayaking to collaborating with industry leaders, Laila Reigstad is not just a paddling expert—she’s an inspiration to anyone looking to connect with nature and explore their limits on the water. Born and raised on the island of Hitra in Norway, Reidar Sether has always been drawn to the ocean. Six years ago, he bought his first kayak and quickly became adept after taking a basic sea kayak course. Initially, he enjoyed touring on calm waters, but his passion for challenging conditions was ignited during a symposium with his local kayaking club. There, he experienced the thrill of paddling in exposed water and breaking waves. Reidar loves pushing the limits in demanding conditions with skilled paddlers and enjoys playful activities like dock drops and seal launches. Over the years, he has taken more kayaking classes and is now qualified to teach and lead sea kayaking groups.
For Reidar, kayaking is either a serene outdoor experience or an action-packed adventure. He enjoys peaceful trips with friends, taking coffee breaks on the shore, and simply hanging out. But he also loves the thrill of paddling with a skilled group in areas known for demanding conditions with waves and currents. Paddling brings him close to nature while full of action. Improving his skills and having the right equipment for different paddling types is crucial for him. While he enjoys both scenarios, the adrenaline-filled adventures are his favorite.
Reidar chooses to align with Aqua Bound because he believes they are the best paddles on the market. Throughout his adventures, Aqua Bound paddles have never failed him, even after enduring significant use and abuse.
This summer, Reidar plans to conduct a few beginner classes and explore more locations along the Norwegian coast.

With a deep-rooted passion for whitewater and expedition paddling, Alejandro’s paddling journey began in canoes and evolved into a love for packrafting. Based in Orono, Maine, Alejandro is a registered Maine Guide and ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, with experience including leading canoe, backpacking, and sailing trips for Outward Bound.
Alejandro loves the pace and intentionality of paddling. His favorite trips include a bit of newness, whether it is his first time in a place or sharing a river he knows well with a newcomer. Newness is part of what draws Alejandro to packrafting, where there are so many watts to combine paddling with hiking, biking, skiing and other activities.
Alejandro is deeply involved in the paddling community. As a personal paddler, guide, and educator, he enjoys paddling with friends and helping others improve their skills. He also plays a key role in organizing events. Last year, he helped organize the first Diversify Whitewater event in Maine, providing a free day of paddling for over 50 BIPOC, queer, and allied individuals.
In 2023, Alejandro achieved his goal of paddling at least one day every month, braving several cold-weather trips in Maine. While he doesn't plan to repeat this feat in 2024, he's looking forward to significant winter paddling adventures in the winter of 2024/25.
Alejandro's go-to paddle is the Shred Apart 6-piece. This versatile paddle can be used as a single or double-bladed paddle, making it ideal for his needs as a packraft guide. Whether paddling solo or in a tandem, the Shred Apart is his top choice for navigating both whitewater rapids and calm flatwater stretches. He also appreciates the Edge single-bladed paddle for its performance in the front of a tandem setup.

I live in the most northern part of Sweden (Lapland) in a very small village with the wilderness on my doorstep. I can literally start an adventure directly from my house. I have been paddling packraft since 2011. In the beginning I did mostly lake paddling, but since 2016 I have done more and more rivers and whitewater. Every year, me and my closest friends try to go on at least one longer packrafting trip (7-10 days). We also do a couple of shorter trips every year, including roundups.
Beside packrafting I also do Nordic skiing, traditional hiking and MTB. Aqua Bound Shred Many untouched rivers in the north of Sweden https://www.instagram.com/stavros6969/?hl=en https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWsiSxOrixnUqGVAPLCnmJw

In 2019, Shibby made history by becoming the first person to kayak the entire length of Norway from border to border—and back again! His current adventure is part three of an ambitious mission to kayak the 10 longest fjords in Norway. This year, he’s paddling from Bråttøya in Nordland all the way to the Russian border, completing the last three fjords on his list.
For Shibby, there’s nothing better than testing himself on cross-country adventures, staying as close to the sea as possible, and sharing magical moments with wildlife like sharks, whales, and even the famous Hvaldimir. Whether paddling along the Thai west coast, the Swedish coast, or the wild Norwegian coastline, he’s always chasing those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Shibby’s paddle of choice? Aqua Bound’s Whiskey blade. “I love the name Aqua Bound—it’s like a description of how I feel!” he says. With its effortless design and quality materials, it’s his go-to for long-distance trips, though he occasionally switches to a smaller blade for variety.
When he’s not kayaking, Shibby shares his epic adventures on his YouTube channel, ShibbyTraveler, capturing moments most people wouldn’t believe without video proof. He also enjoys meeting fellow paddlers and giving talks at kayaking clubs across Norway.

Kevin Whitley, also known as "Kayak Kevin," hails from Norfolk, VA, and brings over 23 years of experience in open water and inland saltwater paddling. With seven long-distance tours under his belt and extensive experience running and fishing river rapids, Kevin is a seasoned paddler who has learned the ropes through hands-on experience and a good instructional book.
Kevin loves the freedom and independence that kayaking offers, allowing him to set off on adventures whenever the mood strikes. His favorite paddling experiences range from the open saltwater environments to the thrilling downhill river runs.
Kevin's go-to paddles are the Tango Carbon for open water and the Tango Fiberglass for rivers. As a low-angle paddler, Kevin finds the Tango's wide blade perfect for gripping the water, even in light rapids. He particularly appreciates the hand indexing shape on the shaft, stressing its importance for controlling the paddle.
Kevin's seven long-distance tours total over 4,000 miles and more than a year camping out of a kayak. He was the first Virginia kayak saltwater Expert Angler, the first two-time kayak Expert Angler, and the first Virginia saltwater kayak master angler. Kevin has also produced four DVDs, three focused on kayak fishing the Chesapeake Bay and one documenting a 600-mile tour of the Bay.
Kevin's latest venture combines his kayaking and fishing skills by tackling traditionally whitewater runs for kayak fishing. This approach sets him apart from other kayak anglers and requires technical whitewater skills. Kevin is excited to continue exploring these challenging waters and pushing the boundaries of kayak fishing.
